A Milestone for Syriac Media and Institutions in Syria

For more than two decades, SuroyoTV has played a vital role in preserving and promoting the Syriac language and culture. Since the beginning of its broadcasting journey, the channel has served not only as a media platform but also as a cultural bridge connecting Syriac communities across regions and generations.

Today, SuroyoTV has reached a significant milestone: it has obtained official recognition in Syria. Alongside this achievement, several other Syriac institutions — including the Syriac Cultural Association, IZLA, and the Syriac Cross Relief Organization — have also secured official status.

These developments represent more than administrative progress. They symbolize hope, visibility, and acknowledgment for Syriac cultural, social, and humanitarian work within Syria. For many Syriacs, such recognition reflects a broader aspiration: the desire for the Syriac people themselves to be officially recognized as a people.

In this context, the European Syriac Union (ESU) has reaffirmed its commitment to continue advocating for Syriac rights. ESU emphasizes that this effort will proceed through diplomatic engagement as well as through constructive dialogue within the public sphere.

The recent recognitions are therefore seen as an encouraging step — one that strengthens institutions, supports cultural continuity, and fosters optimism about future progress.

ESU extends its sincere congratulations to SuroyoTV and to all Syriac institutions that have achieved official recognition. It is hoped that this milestone will pave the way for further advancements benefiting Syriac culture, identity, and community life.
