The areas under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTŞ) and the Free Syrian Army (FSA) are witnessing increasing oppression, violence, and massacres. Alawites are particularly affected, but the authoritarian practices and radical ideologies of these groups pose a threat to all communities in the region.
What is happening to the Alawites today could extend to Syriacs, Yazidis, Kurds, Druze, and democratic Sunnis tomorrow. History teaches us that silence and division inevitably lead to new catastrophes. Therefore, it is more urgent than ever for the peoples of Syria to unite. Regardless of faith or identity, they must form a common front against this oppressive regime.
The repressive and discriminatory actions of HTŞ and the FSA target not only religious and ethnic minorities but also everyone who seeks a free and democratic life. A collective response is essential to weaken the radical structures of these groups and lay the groundwork for a peaceful Syria.
WHAT MUST BE DONE?
- Solidarity and Common Goals:
Alawites, Syriacs, Yazidis, Kurds, Druze, and democratic Sunnis must overcome ethnic and religious differences. A shared focus on human rights, freedom, and peace is the key. - International Support:
The voices of those affected must be heard on a global level. International organizations such as the United Nations and the European Union must be urged to act and bring the crimes committed by HTŞ and the FSA into the spotlight of international law. - Media Advocacy:
The crimes against humanity committed by these groups must be exposed through targeted public awareness and media campaigns to alert the global community. - Local Collaboration:
Alliances must be forged in various regions of Syria with forces advocating for freedom and equality. A strong grassroots movement is essential for organizing resistance.
UNITY IS THE KEY
The oppression in areas controlled by HTŞ and the FSA is not only a tragedy for the present but also a harbinger of further catastrophes. Silence and inaction allow these oppressive structures to grow and cause even more suffering.
Anyone who believes in a democratic, pluralistic, and free Syria must set aside differences and act in solidarity. It must be clear: this is not the fight of a single group or minority—it is a fight for universal human rights, freedom, and dignity.
Only through unity and determined resistance can we save the present and the future.
Together, we can make it happen.
