We are going through a period in which political and social balances in the Middle East are rapidly changing. As the future of the region is being reshaped, the will, identity, and historical rights of our people cannot be ignored.
As the European Syriac Union (ESU), we state clearly: unless the legitimate demands of our people are met, we are not obliged to side with any political actor or power. Fine words, temporary promises, and vague commitments are not sufficient for us.
Our fundamental demand is the constitutional recognition and protection of our language, our culture, and the historical existence of the Syriac people. Until these rights are explicitly, bindingly, and permanently enshrined in constitutional texts, we are under no obligation to accept any proposed solution.
We call on our people to unite, to stand up for their rights, and to continue with determination the struggle to shape their future by their own will. As ESU, we will continue to stand by our people at every stage of this struggle.
