Dear Party Presidents and Representatives,
The European Syriac Union (ESU) wishes to reiterate the urgent importance of the full and effective implementation of the constitutional rights of our Chaldean-Syriac-Assyrian people in Iraq.
Article 125 of the Iraqi Constitution explicitly guarantees the cultural, religious, and political rights of our people, while Article 140 provides a constitutional framework for determining the status of disputed territories and ensuring stability and security for their inhabitants. Despite these clear constitutional commitments, their implementation has been repeatedly delayed. As a result, our people continue to face insecurity, demographic pressure, political marginalization, and an uncertain future in their ancestral lands.
In light of this situation, the ESU calls upon all relevant political parties and stakeholders in Iraq to undertake the following measures with urgency and resolve:
- Launch a coordinated political and legal initiative to ensure the full and practical implementation of the constitutional rights guaranteed to our people.
- Actively defend and advance our administrative and governance rights, particularly within local authorities and in disputed areas.
- Take concrete steps to strengthen the security, political representation, and institutional presence of our people.
- Enhance cooperation and solidarity at both national and international levels to safeguard our rights and ensure sustainable protection.
The future of our people in Iraq depends on decisive and united action to uphold these constitutional guarantees. The ESU affirms its continued commitment to stand alongside you in this effort and to provide sustained support and advocacy at the international level.
