Sayfo 1915: Remembering a Forgotten Genocide and the Resilience of the Syriac People

The exhibition “Sayfo 1915. The Syriac People: History of a Forgotten Genocide”, organized by the European Syriac Union, invites you to discover the little-known history and contemporary challenges of the Syriac people—one of the indigenous peoples of Mesopotamia, spanning the regions of Turkey, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran.

Through powerful archives and moving testimonies, the exhibition retraces more than a century of memory. From the 1915 genocide (Sayfo) to forced migrations, as well as the ongoing struggle for recognition and the preservation of a threatened identity, it highlights the resilience of a people.

A journey into the past to shed light on today’s challenges: integration and development in Europe, cultural and linguistic transmission, and advocacy for a dignified return to ancestral lands.

In addition to the exhibition, several screenings of the documentary “Zahqa dlo kolo”, produced by Suroyo TV, will take place on May 1st. This documentary provides a detailed account of the genocide, enriched with testimonies from Sayfo survivors.

An invitation to understand, to remember, and to keep the memory alive.
