European Syriac Union wishes His Holiness Pope Leo XIV a swift and full recovery

The European Syriac Union (ESU), through its Co-Chairs, wishes to express its warmest hopes for the swift and full recovery of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV as he continues his recovery following recent surgery and hospitalisation.

Our thoughts and prayers are with His Holiness, the Catholic Church, and the faithful around the world who are following his recovery.

For Christian communities in the Middle East, the Holy See has long been an important voice for peace, human dignity, religious freedom, dialogue, and the preservation of the region’s historic Christian presence. In times of conflict, persecution, displacement, and profound social change, this moral voice remains of particular importance.

As representatives of Syriac, Assyrian, and Aramean communities in Europe and the Middle East, we stand in solidarity with our Catholic brothers and sisters. Our churches and communities share a deep historical heritage and a common hope that Christians can continue to live in their ancestral homelands in peace, security, dignity, and mutual respect alongside all other religious and ethnic communities.

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, dialogue between religions and peoples, and the protection of human dignity reflects values that the European Syriac Union shares and actively promotes.

At a time when the Middle East continues to face conflict, uncertainty, and migration, the international community must remain committed to peace, stability, pluralism, and the protection of the communities that have for generations formed an integral part of the region’s cultural and religious diversity.

The European Syriac Union wishes His Holiness Pope Leo XIV strength during his recovery and sincerely hopes that he will soon regain his full health and continue his important mission in the service of peace, reconciliation, dialogue, and human solidarity.
